This is the first time I have ever given a book one star. Just one. LOL I really felt like this book kept trying to go somewhere but it never made it to its destination. Mind you, I did not even finish this book. Maybe because I am not a “young adult”. I could not endure reading angst and pains of youth and subpar writing. I read about a third of this book and I just cant. So I gave up. Forgive me guys, but maybe this author needed a better editor cuz…yikes.

The Empress (The Diabolic, #2) Book Review

So y’all already know how much I loved The Diabolic. Therefore, it would be a crime for me to NOT read the second book, The Empress. What I enjoyed about The Empress, is that I got a better view of the world/galaxy Kincaid has built. Now I don’t usually divulge the plot in my reviews but I must tell you how frustrated I am with Diabolic and her need to be in control of everything. But it’s her nature! Her greatest purpose, protecting her man, totally erupts despite her good intentions. Diabolic makes the biggest mistake ever!

Book Life Lessons: Low key, there is a lesson in this. If you’re anything like me, having a plan, motivation and a goal is a shield for failure. But you cannot plan your life around other peoples lives. We must stay in our lane and not try to run someone else race thinking its our duty to carry them. All your efforts just might blow up in your face and the person who you were running with becomes your greatest enemy. OUCH!

I cannot wait for the next book in this series and honestly, I feel like Kindcaid is just getting started. So is it a trilogy? May it not be so! We need two more books sis. Kincaid, continue to take your because we want you to bring us hot fire!

The Diabolic (The Diabolic, #1) Book Review

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

This book has got to be one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Although this series is nothing like TOG, I have connected with Kincaid’s writing, characters, and plot. In my mind, Maas is the Queen of fae and Kincade is the Queen of outer space. The plot is excellent, the main character is utterly unique, and the worldbuilding is perfect. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. If you haven’t delved too deeply in sci-fi, give this book a try, its well worth your time and the audiobook is superb.

Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha, #1) Book Review

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

“The gods chose you, they don’t make mistakes.”

First of all, I am grateful for this book. Why you ask? As a bookish POC who loves fantasy and science fiction, this is my first time reading a novel in this genre with all African characters. Issues of colorism and police brutality, as well as themes of oppression and justice, permeate this novel. Adeyemi does a great job at handling these sensitive topics and the tone is almost reminiscent of apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa.

Now for the other stuff. The magic system is dope and rich, with varying powers/giftings endowed to a chosen few by a god/goddess. This book started off realllly good until about a third of the way and then it slowed down. In that way this book reminds me of The Poppy War, BUT, it picks back up two-thirds of the way and were back in business. I wonder if that is because it was supposed to be a stand alone. But its done so well and now its gonna be a series. IDK. Not sure where the series will go from here but the skies the limit.

I’m very excited for the next installment and I’m praying my girl delivers.

A Court of Frost and Starlight Review

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

Booooooring. Good thing I listened to the audiobook because I’m pretty sure I would have never finished this novella. ACOWAR and ACOFAS made me entirely too nervous and afraid to read the last installment of TOG. Thank God Maas delivered on Kingdom of Ash because that would have been utterly disappointing. If for some reason you feel the need to read this book, DON’T. Life and time are precious, and despite what some members of the SJM fandom may say about this one, use your energy for more satisfying endeavors.
